European Political Science Society

In June 2025, the EPSA Governing Council voted to establish the not-for-profit organisation European Political Science Society (EPSS). Join our listserv and follow this website for more information and join us next summer for Belfast 2026.

Why EPSS?

The European Political Science Society (EPSS) was established in the summer of 2025, as a not-for-profit and member-led political science association committed to fostering a vibrant scholarly network and hosting an engaging annual conference. EPSS remains steadfast in its dedication to promoting scientifically rigorous political science across Europe. By reinvesting its revenues both into the organization and into member-focused initiatives, EPSS ensures that its activities directly support the advancement of its members’ professional growth and collaboration.

Central to its mission is the creation of sustainable governance and a resilient financial model that nevertheless keeps the organization as financially accessible as possible to junior scholars. Through a governance framework built on elected offices rather than individual owners, EPSS also secures the long-term continuity and vitality of the organization.

With a strong commitment to member-led governance and unwavering academic integrity, EPSS is laying a robust foundation to serve and inspire both current and future generations of political scientists.

Transition from the European Political Science Association

EPSS is the result of a major governance reform voted by the EPSA Council at its annual meeting in 2025 that creates an alternative to the privately owned for-profit model in the form of a transparent, member-led not-for-profit association. This change severs the association’s links to the privately owned EPSAL and formally establishes a new body, EPSS. EPSS has the same president and elected council members but has a separate legal identity and a larger vision. The change reflects our commitment to academic integrity, democratic accountability, and long-term sustainability, ensuring that the society is rooted in the interests and values of its scholarly community.

Themes of study

EPSS is committed to the scientific study of political processes. We engage with the most pressing themes in European and global politics—ranging from democratic governance, political behaviour, and public policy to political economy, institutions, and international relations. Our annual conference showcases research that is methodologically rigorous and intellectually ambitious.
